My 1998 Ford Explorer....Eddie Bauer Special edition, started smoking from under the hood while sitting in our driveway. It then went into a fire.......a blazing inferno... Fortunately, we were able to get out of the house . The fire caught onto our garage. Our family room is over our double garage. The fire department were able to put out the fire just before our family room went ablaze. Thank God, but we stood 5 houses down and watched all this in disbelief!!!!
When we think of what could have happened...... It this happened at night, we would have all been in bed.
Fortunately, it happened around dinner time
We have since been contacted by many people saying this is very common in our vehicle. Apparently, the nickname for our vehicle is the FORD EXPLODER. There is a site called Flaming Fords...thousands of incidences the same as ours. We live in Toronto , Ontario. I need direction in how to go after a big company like Ford. They wont even speak to me about this. There have been recalls about a cruise control switch that has caused these fires but we never got one.
Right now, we have lost our vehicle, our replacement value won't be enough to buy a new one, our home is a mess....But thank God for insurance. But, why should they be responsible for a defect that Ford produced. PLEASE...if anyone can help me to find a legal contact, please email me. I just do not know how to start this whole process.
